By Akon Eddy, Kaduna
Yorubas in the 19 Northern states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT), had promised to support President Muhammadu Buhari base on personal reputation that he can lead the country aright.
President General of the Community, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Oguntoyinbo, who stated this during the 2015 Yoruba Day celebration in the North and FCT, said the Yoruba who are mostly called ‘Omooluabi’ because of their peaceful and cordial relationship nature, back the President’s move to improve security in the country especially curbing insurgency which has been responsible for wanton destruction of lives and property.
They also draw the attention of the President to the need to stop farmers and herdsmen clashes, kidnapping and robbery across the country.
Speaking on the economic front the Yoruba Community advice President Buhari to sort out other means of revenue generations especially in the solid minerals and agricultural sector to act as substitute to the dwindling oil price in the international market.
“After our last Yoruba day celebration 2014, some important events have happened in Yoruba land and worthy of mention is that we have a new president in person of President Muhammadu Buhari for Nigeria as a nation, new Governor in Kaduna state which serves as our base Mallam Nasir El-Rufa’i.
“There’s also the sad demise of the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade Olubuse 11, may his gentle soul rest in peace; and the demise of Chief H.I.D Awolowo the Yeye Oduduwa, may her gentle soul rest in peace.
“We also witness the selection of Prince Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi as the new Ooni of Ife by Ife Kingmakers. We congratulate him and Ife Kingmakers for the successful selection. We also use this medium to inform you that his coronation will be on the 17 November, 2015 and we call on people who have the means to be in Ife to witness this historical occasion.
“Many other things have happened since last celebration but we thank God that everybody in this hall are alive to witness another celebration. We as Yoruba people in the North and FCT have our piece of advice for government of the day.
“We first call on President Muhammadu Buhari led administration to ensure that the present move to secure the country especially curbing the insurgency is realized in order to save the unnecessary wanton destruction of lives and property of our people. All plans by the administration for development will be thwarted if insecurity is not checked because there’s no development amidst rancor.
“President should also ensure that all Nigerians are secured within the country. We plead with him to look at the issue of indigene-settlers in the areas of solid minerals development and agriculture. We also assure the president that we, the Yoruba in the North and FCT are behind him in his effort to move the nation forward to a better and prospective status,” he said.
