Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) appealed to the Government of the Federation to come to its aid by funding it effectively to make it work better.
The Commander-General of the group, Alhaji Ali Sokoto, made the demand shortly after he was awarded Epitome of Leadership by the leadership of National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) at the national secretariat of the group in Kaduna yesterday.
He said lack of funds and equipment is hampering the operation as a crime fighting agency.
Ali Sokoto who single-handedly founded the VGN in 1983, said his group has grown from a local security establishment to a national outfit with its men and officers across the 36 states of the federation.
He said, “we are appealing to the federal government to help us with funds and equipment to go after the criminals and provide an environment where everybody can sleep with their two eyes closed. We all know the state of insecurity in the country at the moment is worrisome and calls for concerns. If you are traveling and there is night fall you have to stop over till day break because of the state of insecurity in the country,” he said.
Earlier, President of NAPS, Comrade Adeyeye Olugbenga use the opportunity to appeal with the group to provide and extend their security service to their institutions particularly place like Kaduna Polytechnic where it is undergoing security threat issue of insecurity is rampant.
Represented by his Vice, Comrade Sunday Adekanbi, Olugbenga said NAPS choice of honouring the Commander General, Alhaji Ali Sokoto with the award was informed by his charisma and selfless service to the nation.
