Group, the Northern Consensus Movement (NCM) has written President Bola Tinubu to support Senator Abdulazeez Abubakar Yari to emerge as the next President of the Senate.
The group argued that Yari, coming from the Northwest region which gave Tinubu over 2.7 million votes in addition to his previous political exposure eminently qualified to lead the Senate in the 10th assembly ready for inauguration on June 13 if things work out as planned by the 9th senate.
President of the Group, Comrade Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu, told newsmen in Kaduna on Thursday that, NCM wanted Tinubu to allow the democratic principles to prevail in the process of electing the 10th President Senate.
According to him, “NCM is soliciting the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Sen Abdulazeez Abubakar Yari from Northwest to become the 10th Senate President considering the voting contributions from the region in the just concluded elections which gave APC victory over all the parties.
“The North gave APC over 5,7m votes and the Northwest produced over 2,7m votes above all regions in the country.
“Above all, His Excellency Abdulazeez Abubakar Yari’s State produce the highest votes for APC above any other State in the Federation with over 1m votes.
You may wish to recall that, democracy is not all about religion or tribe. Democracy is a game of numbers and interest which is why the North voted Bola Tinubu as their President above all the Northern Presidential candidates.
“Finally, we wish Mr. President a world-class democrat to allow the democratic principles to prevail in the process of electing the 10th President Senate, please”, he said.
