SHOCKING: How Kebbi Doctor Jamilu Moh’d amputatated baby girl at birth and ran away
IT was one of the pathetic stories that have worried the minds of several people in the health sector and the larger society. It was a story of baby girl whose left hand was mistakingly amputated by a Principal Medical Officer at Martha General Hospital, Zuru, Kebbi State, Northwest Nigeria, Doctor Jamilu Mohammed.
The mother had been in childbirth labour when she was rushed to the hospital for expected safer delivery which eventually turned out to strategy and a pursue for medical experts.
Analysts say, whatever the punishment that may be melted on the doctor, would not returned the already damaged hand of the innocent baby girl.
The development is rather counterproductive to campaign of assessing medical facilities by local women in the country.
The Doctor according to reports upon attended to the woman had pronounced the foetus dead which the woman declined because she could felt its movement in her womb.
While this argument was going on between the Doctor and his patient, the baby’s left hand protruded which made the Doctor further convinced that the baby was dead and went ahead and amputated the hand. But he ran away when he noticed the baby was alive after the damage has been done.
However, Senior Special Adviser (New Media) to Governor Atiku Bagudu said, her principal took action immediately after viewing the disturbing pictures and visual chat with a man claimed to be relative of the child in question.
Deputy Senate Leader representing Kebbi South where the incident occurred, Bala Ibn Na’Allah has taken over the full medical treatment of the baby to safe her life. Both the mother and the baby have been moved from Zuru to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kebbi for full medical attention on the directive of the lawmaker.
