Group known as North-west wing of the coalition of Northern Youth Organizations in Kaduna on Thursday held a rally, calling on Senator Danjuma Goje to declare intention for the Senate presidency.
The supporters, who described the lawmaker as the most qualified to hold the position among all contenders from North East region, said as a group, they have decided to reject any purported endorsement of senate president contender from North East by the national leadership of the APC.
Chairman of the group, Engr Hassan Idris, said, the build up to the choice of a senate president from the North-east has thrown up serious concerns and the need to draw the attention of well-meaning Nigerians, particularly, those from the region to the unfair endorsement of candidate from the region.
According to him, the ruling party’s decision to zone the senate presidency of the 9th assembly to the North-east zone, may have been greeted with salutary commendation in acknowledgement of the region’s contribution to the party’s entire success at the recently concluded 2019 polls.
The chairman further added that, they desire to place on record that, each of the contending senators who have declared interest, namely, Senators Ali Ndume and Ahmad Lawan are eminently qualified to vie for the office of the senate presidency because they have contributed meaningfully to the growth and development of the region in their individual respective capacities.
“We also believe that, as ranking members of the Senate, each of these contenders have the requisite wealth of experience to bring to bear as part of the sterling qualities that should define the character of the senate president.
“We therefore owe it a sense of duty to demand and insist that, the contenders to the seat of the senate presidency must subject themselves to a level playing democratic process of equal opportunity.
“The North-west wing of the Coalition of the organization, is calling on all concerned persons to prevail on Senator Danjuma Goje to declare and run for the Presidency of the 9th Senate,” he said.
In a remark, after receiving the letter, Administrative Assistant to the Secretary, APC North-west office, Malam Suleiman Adamu told the group that their letter will be delivered to the party’s North West secretary who will later forward it to the National Secretariat for action as requested.
