Outrage as Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission fails to airlift 2017 intending pilgrims in May 2018
Scores of intending Christian pilgrims in Nigeria who have paid the fare cost and other charges since 2017 have been stranded due to unfair treatment by the body in charge.
Nigerian Christian Pilgrimage Commission (NCPC) has since December 2017, when these intending pilgrims ought to have been airlifted to Israel, keep posting them without specific time they will go to perform their Christianity rites in the holy land.
When contacted through his mobile line for comment over the alleged fraudulent suspicions, one of the top staff of NCPC, Chris Udegbunam, declined to tell the world what he knows about this development.
He said, “Even though you have the right to know what you are asking, I cannot give you the information you want because I don’t know who I’m speaking with.
“You just come down to the office, present your identity card and you will get information you want from our media team.
“You can also formally write a letter for that purpose. You should see our media team”, Chris said.
All attempt by this correspondent to know what was causing delay in airlifting the intending pilgrims was technically turned down by the NCPC official.
Some of the intending pilgrims who spoke to Gobroadsheet under the condition of anonymity said, “we are afraid some people may have ate our money.
“How can we pay for the fare since last year and there is no clear direction on when we will go and they are not refunding us”, one of them said.
However, another source from NCPC hinted that, the Commission may be having issues with logistics resulting from cash crunch because the Commission cannot set date for the pilgrims to fly.
“See, I’m not sure if the Commission has the amount of money required for you people to travel. May be they can get financial assistance elsewhere to settle the logistic issues”, added the source.
