The political atmosphere in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State of Osun on Saturday took another dimension as a factional group believe to be loyal to Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, allegedly launched a bloody attack on suspects supporters of the incumbent Governor of the State, Gboyega Oyetola at the party’s secretariat, Osogbo.

Specifically, a credible source in the state hinted that supporters of former Osun Governor, Aregbesola, operating under “The Osun Progressives, TOP” on Saturday allegedly invaded the party secretariat, in a commando manner and chased away the members of the Appeal Committee, who arrived the state on Friday.

The group had submitted its petitions to the party secretariat in Abuja, which was in turn delivered to the Appeal Committee for scrutiny.

According to the source, the party in its wisdom then sent an appeal committee to address the issue between the two political heavyweights which has been lingering for a while.

“But rather than allow the committee to do its job, TOP members, led by its Chairman, Adelowo Adebiyi and Gbenga Akanwo, allegedly led armed thugs to the party secretariat, beating everyone in sight, especially those wearing any cap or T-shirt with the inscription of the incumbent governor on it”, the source told Gobroadsheet.

Gobroadsheet reports that APC must investigate this sad development to guide against recurrence especially as the party gets ready to contest the governorship election in the state in a matter of months – with incumbent Oyetola seeking re-election for the second term of four years.
