NYSC/PAIGAS Inaugurate CDS Group In Kaduna

Pan African Institute for Global Affairs and Strategy (PAIGAS) in collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Tuesday inaugurated a Community Development Service (CDS) group on legal migration in Kaduna.
PAIGAS, an international organisation was in Kaduna in 2017 to brief the leadership of the NYSC in the State on its activities and its desire to have Corps members representing the organisation at the grassroots level which was sealed on its second coming on Tuesday.
In an interview with newsmen shortly after the inauguration of the CDS group at the permanent orientation camp of the scheme in Sabon Gaya, Kaduna, member of PAIGAS, Amb Abdulaziz Musa Dankano said, the step became necessary owing to the number of young people that want to migrate from their place of birth to other part of the world and the need for them to do that using the right channels.
According to him, “young people are the majority of those who always want to travel far from their place of birth in search of knowledge or greener pastures.
“We are not saying they should not travel.
“We are only saying they should follow the right channels so they don’t end up in the hand of desperate human trafficking syndicate who are everywhere.
“Most of the trafickers don’t use manned borders but use illegal routes in the Sahara desert. And for those that are trafficked through the sea, what they do is to make a balloon on the ship and then push it on from where wind will takeover. If you are lucky, you get to the other side and if you are not lucky, you get drawn and that is the end.
“There are many challenges with regard to porous border but we have surveillance including helicopters as well as collaborating with neighbouring countries to check the activities of these people.
“So, as you are going to your places of primary assignment, you have to do things right in order to save yourselves and other young people from impending trouble,” he urged.
The Coordinator of NYSC in the State, Mallam Isa Wana noted that, as the number one youth mobiliser organisation in Nigeria, NYSC was pleased to partner PAIGAS in sensitising larger youth group across the country on legal migration.
“It is a good one because we have our Corps members serving in all nooks and crannies of Nigeria. So, because they are everywhere, it is good to sensitise them on legal migration, that is, if it is necessary and important, which they will in turn, reciprocate same where they will be posted to for the national service,” he said.
