Northern group condemns Kano killing
… Dares N/Delta Avengers on planned attacks
//Godwin Ekosin, Kaduna//
A coalition of Northern activists under the aegis of Northern Consensus Movement (NCM) has condemned in categorical terms, the killing of an Igbo market woman, Mrs. Bridget Agbahime in Kano by a group of youth for allegedly blasphemy Prophet Muhammed.
This was as the coalition dared Niger Delta Avengers on their threat to attack places in northern Nigeria, saying Northerners are not cowards.
The group in a press statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Jibrilla Gadzama while reacting to the gruesome murder of the woman over her alleged blasphemy on prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Kaduna yesterday, expressed dismay over the unfortunate incident and labeled it as a barbaric act undertaken out of wickedness and ignorance.
The group while lamenting the use of jungle justice by the misguided youths, as against the rule of law said, all forms of grievances should be reported to the constituted authority for law to take its course.
The statement read in part, “This unfortunate act is uncalled for especially at this crucial period of our national existence when inter and intra personal relationships between Nigerians from all regions remain increasingly fragile thereby negatively affecting the peaceful coexistence of citizens in various parts of the country.
“Islamically, if any Muslim or non-Muslim commits such an offense, it is not the prerogative of any person or group of persons to take laws into their hands but to direct to the custodians of the law to ensure that the rule of law takes its course”.
The Coalition suggested the urgent need for religious leaders to embark on sensitization of the public especially those in the northern part of the country and particularly the youth, against the dangers of taking laws into their hands when similar events occur in future.
“We are therefore, calling on the authority concerned to immediately intervene in the issue in order to avoid possible escalation of violence as a result of the terrible incident”.
Commenting on the seven days ultimatum given by the dreaded Niger Delta Avengers to attack places in the northern part of Nigeria, NCM said, Northerners are not cowards.
“Northerners are not cowards and no amount of baseless threats and the brutal or unnecessary killings of our people will deter us from protecting the interests of Northern Nigeria”.
“Enough is enough of this IPOB madness in the form of killing, intimidation and harassment of northerners residing in the South Eastern part of the country as we shall no longer accept such nonsense.
“On 29 May, 2016, scores of northerners were killed in Asaba, Enugu, Aba, Onitsha and some towns of the southeast and south south. This is going on without any Obi or Ohaneze or community leader calling the criminal elements among them to order. This is unacceptable and a sign of endorsement.”
“They have already pushed us to the wall and we shall soon take against them and their sponsors, all lawful actions available at our disposal”.
“We want to reiterate our earlier position that the Federal Government should as a matter of urgency, apply the same action upon them, as was applied against the Boko Haram sect because from all indications, their persistent attacks on Northerners in their domain and the bombing of oil installations/companies in their region shows that they are not ready for any form peace or dialogue.”
“We therefore call on the security agencies to take immediate action on the activities of IPOB because they are not better than other citizens of this country,” the Coalition said.
