Kaduna stolen newborn: Deaf mothers demand special units at public hospitals
KADUNA, NORTHWEST NIGERIA
Due to sudden disappearance of a day-old-baby born to deaf parents at Yusuf Dantsoho General Hospital, Tudun Wada Kaduna, Kaduna State Deaf Women Association who are also mothers have demanded special unit for people with disability at public hospitals to guide against reoccurrence of such incident.
The women in a statement by Hajara Nakarfi said, the association was indeed saddened by the development.
“We are saddened with the news making the round of a missing baby of deaf parents which occurred on the 10th of January 2018 at Yusuf Dantsoho Memorial hospital popularly known as Asibitin dutse.
”Indeed, this incident came to us as a shock especially at this new year which we are all looking forward with great hope and expectations.
“We in our capacity as mothers of deaf women in kaduna visited the parents of the stolen baby at the hospital to commiserate with them over the unfortunate accident.
“We therefore call on the management of the hospital and government to beef up security at the hospital and to ensure compliance with visitors time table in order to avoid influx of visitors at odd hours.
“We are certain that if such steps are taken such accident will be avoided.
“We are now calling on the state government to provide disabled friendly unit at all government owned hospitals to provide services for disabled populace”, the statement added.
As at the time of this report, the baby is yet to be found.
