Kaduna Community Petitions ICPC Over Abandoned Project

People of Dan-Honu ll, a community in Chikun Local Government area of Kaduna State, has petitioned the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) over an abandoned rural electrification project in their area.
These local residents believed the project to be part of the federal government constituency projects between 2015 and 2019 in Kaduna Central Senatorial District where a former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani served within the years under review.
ICPC had recently commenced investigations into federal constituency projects, fraudulent abandoned across the country between 2015 and 2019 which propelled the community to penned the commission.
The petition, which was signed by the Secretary of the community’s Residents Association, Alhaji AbdulGafar Alabelewe, stated that, the project has become a nightmare to the entire community, as the dream of the community enjoy electricity supply like its neighbours, has been dashed.
Copy of the petitioned obtained in Kaduna on Tuesday read in part, “it may interest you to note that, the project has attracted 500 and 300 KVA transformers, cables, poles and many other materials which are yet to be installed since January, 2017.
“At the beginning, we were informed that the immediate past Senator representing Kaduna central zone at the National Assembly, Distinguished Senator Shehu Sani facilitated the project.
“During the period under review, we were introduced to contractors who were in charge of rural electrification across the country, who gave us several unfulfilled promises as regards the project, which up till date has not come to fruition.”
