St.Michael College, Kaduna, Northwest Nigeria has emerged overall winner of the first Destiny College Inter-schools athletics competition held in Kaduna.
The school got a total medals of 3 Gold, 4 Silver medals, and 3 bronze while the host, Destiny College, Malali Kaduna came second with 3 Gold and 4 Sliver. Standard Acedemy , Kaduna came third with 1 Gold. Games competed for includes 100 meters boys and girls; 200 meters and 4x 400 meters boys and girls.
Speaking earlier, Director of Studies, Destiny College, Mr. Akintunde Busayo commended the participating schools for their sportsmanship spirit saying, every participant is a winner. He promised that the second episode of the competition will include more field and track events.
Mr. Busayo Akintude also added sport is a tool for the development of mind and body that will impact positively on the society. According to him education is not only confined to the four walls of the classroom but also on the track-field where talents are discovered. He added that Destiny College is not only hosting the tournament to win but contributing to the search of athletes at the grassroots levels who will win medals for the country both in national and international competitions.
In her own remark the Head Coach of Destiny College Mrs princesses Ojeagbase said the College has produced some young sportsmen for the state and they are now champions in the chosen fields.
Sixteen Secondary schools in Kaduna State participated in the competition which is mainly an athletic event.
Speaking earlier the North West Zonal Chairman of Sport Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Alh. Abdulraheem Aodu commended Destiny College for the vision to host the interschool competition saying, many talents in the country are not discovered at early stage and that makes them useless.
Kaduna State SWAN Chairman, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin said SWAN will corporate with Destiny College in its move to discover young athletes that will make the country proud in future.
