NIGERIA –
As part of the initiatives that will make Kaduna State greener and cleaner, Key solid waste management company engaged by the State government, ZL global Alliance (Nigeria) had empowered 56 youths in various trade and offer them automatic employment.
The idea was conceived to provide alternative means of income other than monthly salaries for the beneficiaries who include people living with disabilities.
What this means is that, the beneficiaries, referred to as Bin Security Guards, will have something doing that will keep them close to refuse dumping spots and guide the residents on proper containment of refuse instead of common indiscriminate way of dumping refuse over the years.
The beneficiaries were given air-compressor vulcanizing machines, shoe cobbling tools, wheel barrows, tables, Chairs and recharge cards under the Bin Security Guards (BSG) initiative of the company as a way of reducing unemployment among this group of Nigerians.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Company, Dr. Mrs Abiola Bashorun told newsmen that, the empowerment was part of the company’s efforts of giving back to the society by way of reducing unemployed youths from streets.
The gesture according to this waste management expert was also to compliment the efforts of the state Governor, Nasir El-Rufai in his ‘making Kaduna State great again’ agenda.
Represented by a Consultant, Hajiya Hauwa Umar, the MD said, those empowered will be enrolled into the pay roll of the company, “while they are doing their business with the tools given to them free of charge, they will also act as security guards to the refuse bin at the collection points close to them.
She reiterated that, the empowered youths were among those the company had trained during skills acquisition programme organized by the company earlier this year.
In a remark, the General Manager of Kaduna Environmental Protection Authority (KEPA) Dr Yusuf Rigasa, commended the good initiative of the waste management company.
“Governor El-Rufai did not make mistake by engaging ZL Global Alliance”, he said, “because the company has over time proved her worth by not only delivering on her mandates but even going beyond by giving back to the society.
“This company has performed and still performing tremendously and as a government agency, we are satisfied with their services and urge them to sustain the good work”, he said.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, one of them, a physically challenged, Hussaini Hussaini commended the company for the gesture as it extended its arms of love to people in his category.
