Group cautions Sen Marafa over unguided utterances against senate’s leadership
By Godwin Ekosin, Kaduna
Northern Unity Forum (NUF), on Wednesday cautioned Senator representing Zamfara Central, Kabiru Marafa, over his unguided statement against the leadership of upper chamber of National Assembly.
The group also called on the senator to bury the hatchet and support the purposeful leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari and Senator Bukola Saraki.
The call, which was contained in a statement signed by its chairman, Sulieman Yaro Esq, a copy of which was made available to GOBROADSHEET in Kaduna stated, late first Premier of defunct Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, worked tirelessly to unify the region through schemes and machinations of men in power to made it what it is today, hence the need for Sen Marafa to work along that line.
“Today, you hear of North and core North, a coinage that was imported to weaken the one monolithic North of the late Sardauna of Sokoto,” he lamented.
According to Yaro, “the north has for over six years running, witnessed monumental displacement of its citizens in large numbers through insurgency and other vices that has further impoverished the region.
“Now that efforts are being intensified to resettle and develop the area, some senators under the guise of Senate Unity Forum (SUF) led by the Zamfara Central senator are out to stall the noble effort of the Senate under Dr. Saraki leadership.
“NUF therefore advised SUF and its leadership to join hands with the Saraki led senate to bring even development to the devastated north-east as his (Marafa) sole effort for self aggrandisement will not receive the support of the North,” Yaro clarified.
The forum further said that, “the sponsored protest in the NASS against the suspension of the Zamfara Central senator by hired protesters was baseless, and the call for suspension of the senate president, senseless.”
“Opposition of the Zamfara Central senator to Saraki emergence as senate president was only for self, as he continues to shift the goal post.
“In the days following the announcement of the Senate Standing Committees by the Senate President, Senator Marafa made available a well-publicized article stating that Saraki had done right in the constitution of the Senate committees, and there would be no cause for alarm.”
NUF further quoted the senator as saying, “Many like me thought that this development spelled out that peace would once again rein in the Senate.”
NUF therefore recalled that on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, the same senator began to change mouth by coming to the floor of the Senate armed with a new argument to change his mind from his earlier statement.
