Estimated billing: Kaduna Electric to deploy 100,000 smart meters

Following the yearning of electricity consumers in Kaduna, the management of Kaduna Electric, operator of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDC) said it has took stock of 100,000 units of hi-tech smart energy meters for electricity users within the franchise areas including Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states. The meters are expected to be distributed before the year runs out.
Head, Energy meters and new connections of the Company, Engineer Aliyu Abbas Abdullahi disclosed this at the opening session of a five-day training programme jointly organized by the Company and Elsewedy Electric of Egypt for the metering engineers and installers of Kaduna Electric in Kaduna.
Engineer Abbas Abdullahi announced that the first consignment of about 100,000 meters ordered by Kaduna Electric has arrived the country, hence the training to properly equip the company’s meters engineers and installers with all necessary and requisite knowledge on the “installation, maintenance and operations” of the meters.
According to him, “these are smart meters equipped with globally accepted standard that enable them work with any energy metering hard and software”.
He then appealed to the Company’s customers who shall be the ultimate beneficiaries of the new meters to support the Company by taking proper care of the meters when installed, adding that the meters had undergone painstaking quality assurance tests both in Egypt and in Nigeria.
Also speaking, representative of partnering company, Elsewedy Electric of Egypt, Engineer Mina Samir Istafanous assured that the meters were of high quality standard that could work with any energy metering configuration.
Engr. Mina further revealed some of the features of the meters to includes STS standard, AMR capability, 12 months memory/data storage capability, ability to change maximum and minimum power limit, among others.
Engineer Mina Samir assured Kaduna Electric and its customers of the reliability, durability and ruggedness of the meters just as he warned against been tampered with by unauthorized persons.
