Ei-Rufai flags-off N1.209b free sch uniforms

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, yesterday flagged-off distribution of free school uniforms to over 400,000 students of Government Secondary Schools in the state.
The governor, who was represented by his Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Dr Shehu Adamu, at Maimuna Gwarzo Government Girls Secondary School, Tudun Wada Kaduna, hinted that the state government will spend N1.209billion on the programme.
This, the commissioner said was part of action required following the declaration of state of emergency on education sector by the governor during his address to people of the state on October 1st, 2015.
According to him, the programme covers students from junior secondary schools to senior secondary schools, adding that it also meant to provide uniform identity to all students in government secondary
schools across the state for easy identification.
He said, “the programe cost the state government over N1.2 09 billion to produce uniforms to over 400, 000 students in the entire government secondary schools in the state.
“So far, we have attained 70 per cent completion of the exercise. A shirt and trouser cost the government N2, 400
for boys, N2, 800 for girls with skirt, and N3, 200 for girls with hijab, “he said.
The commissioner added that the distribution would also be carried out at all the ministry’s Zonal Offices, hopefully by next week, when the remaining uniforms are delivered.
The Principal, Maimuna Gwarzo Junior Secondary school, Hajiya Umma Ibrahim, thanked Kaduna state Government for what she termed laudable gesture.
