December 2016: 14 so far died on Kaduna roads – FRSC

14 persons have so far died while 160 injured in road crashes that involved 53 vehicles between December 1st to date, Kaduna Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Frances Udoma has revealed.
The Sector Commander, who disclosed this on Saturday said that, the 14 people were killed in 11 fatal and 23 serious accidents, involving 332 people, adding that the command has rolled-out several operations which began from December 12 to ensure safety of roads throughout the Christmas celebration.
“These operations include operation zero tolerance to accidents, special intervention patrol and traffic frequency monitoring in a bid to make roads accidents free.
“we have deployed radar guns to all flash point areas in the state to check speed violation. We are equally checking overloading and tyre violations.
“We collaborate with other relevant stakeholders like the police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, National Emergency Management Agency and the National Union of Road Transport Workers, “he said.
He equally said that marshals have been deployed to different junctions to ease traffic flow in Kaduna metropolis, adding that officers have also been deployed to all flash point areas to access the impact of the patrol. He added that the operations were being conducted along with mobile court to prosecute traffic offenders.
He explain that the mobile court was a routine exercise, being part FRSC mandate to prosecute traffic offenders with a view to bringing sanity on Nigerian roads.
