//Godwin Ekosin, Kaduna//
Members of All Progressive Congress (APC) Akida, in Kaduna state Thursday rose from a meeting appealing to Governor Nasiru El-rufai to lead with sense of commitment and humility in discharging his electoral mandate to the people of the state.
The group, which has high caliber chieftains of the party in attendance made the call in a press briefing in Kaduna, said they are convinced Kaduna state will be better run if the governor can improve his sensitivities to the common values of consultations and humility of leadership rather than negative approach to issues of the governance.
Spokesman of the group, Mr Mataimaki Tom Maiyashi said, the group will intensify its campaigns to mobilize members to stand up and protect its legitimate interest, while encouraging all members to be decent, modest and responsible, and shun illegal and provocative acts and pronouncements.
“We will urge them to remain steadfast in the pursuit of their rights as loyal and genuine party members across the state,” he said.
Maiyashi further clarified, that APC Akida is not a faction, neither is it an alternative party structure, but rather a group of responsible and loyal party members who believes in the ideals upon which APC is founded and stand for.
“APC has contract with people. There was dissatisfaction from people with PDP that ruled for 16 years so APC come in with intention to right the wrong of the PDP. Certain things are wrong the way some things are been run in the State. We want the party to succeed.
“The National headquarters is aware of the state of the party and that is why the vice chairman, North-west is part of this meeting to see things for himself with a view to ensuring the party is stable and progressing in the State.
“We exist because APC in the state do not exist or function in a manner prescribed by the party constitution or the overwhelming interest of our members. We exist because our party has been deliberately hijacked and made incapacitated by some vested interests, while our members especially major stakeholders and chieftains are deprived of a major roles and asset to exercise their franchise by the party which they help with their sweats to put in power in the state,” he added.
He stressed that they are not and never hostile to El-Rufai’s administration, but believed in playing a responsible and constructive roles in a situation where the government they helped put in power in providing basic social amenities in line with the yearnings and aspirations of the electorates, not the other way round.
Maiyashi then reiterated that APC Akida is not a vehicle for anyone’s political ambition, but the immediate challenge in the state is to free the party from individuals who are using it only as a weapon against other party members, and galvanise the efforts and energies of their members to support pro-people policies and oppose anti-people ones at all times.
He then called on the National secretariat of the APC to fulfill its earlier promise of reconstructing the party leadership at all levels in the state.
The APC Akida Spokesman then expressed support to steps taken by President Muhammadu Buhari in the fight against insecurity, corruption and to rebuild the nation’s economy, while urging the Federal and state governments to embark on the welfares measures that will ease the economic hardship of the citizenry. He called on Nigerians to continue to support his administration in that regard.
