As part of exercise marking its 40th anniversary, Ansarul-Deen Youth Association of Nigeria (ADYAN) in Kaduna, Saturday donated food items and other daily needs worth thousands to inmates at Kaduna Convict Prison.
The prominent Islamic organisation in the country also promised to engage in constant visit to the prison and secure release of inmates with minor offences, by paying their fines.
Speaking during the visit, Chairman of the Ansarul-Deen youths, Malam Sheriff Olutusin called on other Muslims and Islamic organisations to always remember their brothers and sisters in the prisons, by visiting them regularly.
He however assured of Ansarul-Deen’s commitment to assisting prison inmates through provision of food items and drugs, saying “what we have brought here today is a token to assist the inmates and we will come back to do more, if God permits”.
Speaking to the inmates, Lecturer of the association, Malam Inuwa Sabo asked the inmates accept their being in the prison as destiny and not allow it to deter them from being believers.
According to him, “your being in the prison rather than being a curse should be a blessing. You should this opportunity to be closer to God by worshipping Him regularly.”
Earlier, the Imam in charge of the prison Mosque Malam Mohammed Dan-Ibo urged ADYAN to reach out to other Islamic organisations to constantly visit the inmates as a way of giving them love.
Against the widespread belief that everyone in the prison is a criminal, Dan-Ibo said, some were ducked for minor and bailable offences, hence the need for organisations like Ansarul-Deen to come to their aid and secure release of such inmates.
The Ansarul-Deen youths equally took beverages and other essential materials to patients at Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital and orphanage homes in Kaduna.
