PDP Chair Ayu commends writers, pledges support for indigenous literature development
The National Chairman of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, has commended the efforts of Nigerian authors especially Northern region writers for their foresight in organising a befitting summit of all indigenous writers across the 19 Northern states to discuss how to use indigenous literature in addressing current security challenges in the country.
The writers, who converge on Katsina, Katsina State also deliberated on the state of indigenous literature, and the management of writing skills in Nigeria’s indigenous languages.
Ayu, who described writing as an art and skill through which positive issues can be discussed and developed to offer ways out of any challenges affecting society restated his commitment to efforts geared towards making that a continuous thing.
Speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication Yusuf Dingyadi, Ayu said, PDP as a party has tremendous respect and recognition of literature and always adore talents for an effective way of providing good governance, research and information dissemination for unity.
To him, the party is making all the efforts for the take-off of its Peoples Democratic Institute (PDI) set up to offer research, analytical discussions, data storage and knowledge sharing for good governance and political cohesion among Nigerians.
The PDP bigwig also assured of his support and cooperation with Northern writers towards building a formidable indigenous literature society in Nigeria.
“PDP will continue to work together with relevant professional writers and groups in upholding the standard way of writing and literature activities to promote national cohesion, confidence, trust and unity among Nigerians.
Earlier at the Summit, the National Chairman of the Northern Nigeria Writers, Dr. Abu Sabe said members would continue to appreciate the support of individuals, government and other stakeholders for the development of literacy activities in the North, declaring the group’s support. policies and programmes towards the success of the fight against insecurity challenges in the country.
Dr. Sabe commended writers for using their talents through indigenous languages to promote national unity and cohesion in the country.
Over 150 participants from 19 northern states including academicians and representatives from the neighbouring Niger Republic are attending the two-day Summit in Katsina.
