2019: Remain Apolitical, Ex-NDA Boss Tells Officers, Soldiers

As Nigeria Defense Academy commemorates 2018 social activities, soldiers have been called upon to remain apolitical during this year’s elections.
The social activities was meant to take officers to anvironment where they can wine and dine together, an occasion where soldiers and their wives are adore in their traditional outfits and cultural dances traced to preindependent activities of officers of West Africa Force.

Addressing the officers and soldiers at the parade ground of the Academy, Kaduna, over the weekend, the Special Guest of Honour, who served as the Commandant of the academy between 2012 – 2014, Air Vice Marshal Abba Ali Zannah (retd), told soldiers to stick to the rules of engagement and exercise discretion and good judgement in order to safeguard the integrity of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
“I therefore implore you to adher strictly to your code of conduct by being disciplined, loyal, diligent, neutral and above all, remain apolitical in this period of politicking.
“I urge you to remain discipline, focus on your programmes and avoid all negative vices and acts that can jeopardize your future. As officer cadets, you must be above board and shining embodiment of discipline and integrity”, he implored.
Earlier, the Commandant, NDA, Major General Adeniyi Oyebade reiterated the commitment of the Academy to produce quality men and women for all the segments of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Speaking on the significance of the event the Commandant said, “we are here this afternoon to commemorate the year ending 2018 and to enable us make merry and also to thank our God for 2018. It is the tradition of the military to get together. It also serve as a forum to know our families. This is because our activities sometimes take us away from them.
“I want to appreciate those that have contributed to achieve what we have been able to achieve in the past years. I want to appreciate our soldiers too. I want us to redouble our effort in this year 2019. Chief of Defense Staff is appreciative of what we did in the previous year but urged us to do more to go beyond our target.
“As we make merry today, we should not forget all officers and soldiers who have made supreme price for the unity and continuity of our country. We also appreciate those widows among us. We shall do everything to make sure we support you so you do not miss the departed souls so much.”
