Womanhood foundation, other offer free medicare to over 100 journalists in Kaduna

As the world commemorate this year’s oral day, Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria, North-west in conjunction with Womenhood Foundation Saturday offered free medical services to over 100 journalists in Kaduna.
Some of the services rendered while the programme lasted include but not limited to HIV/AIDS test, Dental care, blood pressure, malaria test, typhoid
test, stress counseling and distribution of insecticide Mosquito nets.
Addressing newsmen at the secretariat of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kaduna, venue of the programme, Chairperson of Womenhood Foundation, Hajiya
Maryam Abubakar, said the rationale behind the free excise was to extend the humanitarian service her foundation offers to members of NUJ due to their pivotal place in information dissemination.
Hajia Maryam added that event, which happen to be first of it’s kind, also saw the need to touch the eyes, ears of the society which journalists are part of is germane considering their immense contributions to the society.
Also speaking, the North- West Coordinator of Planned Parenthood
Federation of Nigeria, Ibrahim Kabiru, said “we initiated this excise for
only the journalists in the state to make them physically and mentally fit and we will sustained the excise because journalists are partners in progress.”
He expressed satisfaction with the turn out, saying “we are happy with the turn out of the journalists and their
cooperation as many of them come for the excise.”
Earlier in an address, Chairman, NUJ, Kaduna, Comrade Garba Muhammad, expressed delight for the kind gesture the foundations extended to his colleagues.
The chairman however called on other organizations to emulate the two foundations so as to assist in diagnosing more journalists.
Some journalists, who participated in the exercise, express satisfaction and thanked the organizers, but just like Shakespeare Oliva Twist, they want more from other spirited individuals and organizations.
