Vice Chancellor of National Open University (NOUN), Professor Vincent Ado Tenebe, has said without quality teachers there is no future for Nigeria because teachers are the bedrock of any development in the society.
The Varsity don sated this while declaring open the 30th annual congress of Nigerian Academic of Education (NAE) in Kaduna on Tuesday.
According to him, education is the mother of all arts and teachers today should be one of the well paid in this country because if they are well paid, they will produce the best. But in situation where reverse is the case it will amount to a case of garbage-in garbage-out.
Prof Tenebe further added that if the country is ready for peace and development, teachers should be well involved because “if you send soldiers to maintain peace, they will come with dead bodies. But if teachers are send there, plant peace and development.”
Speaking in the same vein, the Director-General of National Teachers institute, Dr. Sharehu Ladan, said there cannot be quality society without good teachers.
He therefore called on government at all levels to pay special attention to teachers.
The National President, NAE, Professor Ugochukwu Ivomi, said teachers are not beggars therefore better working condition should be provided for them.
He assured Nigerians that the council will work round the clock to ensure that the education sector get a boost.
