We’ll solve our problems soon – Northern governors

Northern States Governors yesterday rose from their 2-day first joint meeting with traditional rulers to issued a communiqué promising to rise to the many challenges facing the region within possible shortest time.
The governors, who unanimously agreed that the region is faced with problems of insecurity, education, unemployment and general social unrest vowed to rise to the occasion even though it may not be easy to achieve.
“We shall overcome our challenges. We are here and we have resolved to solve our problems. We are on our way to the promised Nigeria. We belief in one Nigeria. The next great world market is in Africa and Nigeria will only lead or frustrate the agenda. Let build a new Nigeria”, Governor Kashim Shettima said.
Reading the communique yesterday at Sir Ibrahim Kashim house Kaduna, Chairman of the Forum, Alhaji Shettima told newsmen that, although the region has beeen in the public for wrong reasons, the crises will soon be a thing of the past.
The communique read in part: “the Northern governors in pursuance of the primary objective of securing lives and properties of citizens in their respective States as enshrined in the Constitution
of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended found it expedient to convene a Joint Extra Ordinary Meeting with Chairmen of the Council of Emirs/Chiefs of the respective Northern States.
“The meeting resolved to accept the recommendations of the Body of the Attorneys General of the 19 Northern States to domesticate the model penal code, the model Fiscal Responsibility Law and the model Administration of Criminal Justice Law through the necessary legislative actions and subject to the individual peculiarities of the State in order to ensure transparency, prudent management of public funds as well as smooth dispensation of criminal justice in the region.
