General Officer Commanding, 1 Division of Nigeria Army, Major General Adeniyi Oyebade has revealed that the command lost six soldiers, missed two others in the ongoing ‘Operation Sharan Daji’ and other operations in the North-west region between June and December 2015. He said there are about 500 widows in Division 1 alone.
The Army boss said though the Operation has been eventful and successful as the troops had arrested 294, recovered 37,675 livestock and destroyed over 200 rustlers’ camps in different hot spots in the region.
Maj-Gen Oyebade, who revealed these while addressing newsmen in Kaduna on Wednesday, added that the 37,675 livestock recovered from the rustlers have been handed over to various committees set up by Kaduna State government. He quickly added that 101 of the bandits were killed in the operations that spread across 7 states covered by the Division.
The GOC further hinted that Army also recovered 103 arms from the bandits while 294 of them were arrested and has been handed over to relevant security Agencies for prosecution.
“The recovered livestock have been handled over to the agencies responsible for distributing the livestock to their owners.
“We also have casualties as we lost six soldiers while many sustained various degrees of injuries and two others missing.”
