A non-governmental organisation known as Sulbah Care Foundation over the weekend empowered ten small business owners in Kaduna.
The beneficiaries, mostly young petty traders and widows were given the sum of N10, 000 each to boost their businesses and cater for their immediate needs in that regard.
Founder of the Foundation, the immediate past Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development in Kaduna State, Hajiya Rabi Abdulsalam said, the need to create economic empowerment for youths and widow gave birth to the foundation.
According to her, Sulbah Care Foundation has been touching lives since 2014 which prompted the State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to appoint her as commissioner in his cabinet to reach more people in the state.
“What we are doing here today is quarterly empowerment programme. We are empowering women and some youths today.
“If we can start from our community, it will extend to others because charity begins at home. You cannot leave your community and move to others which is why the beneficiaries are drawn within Kaduna town.”
Giving an insight into the vision of the Foundation she said, “My dad was Ahmed Suleiman. we grew up in Marafa Estate. He called me one day, the fifth of eight, that he was going to sell the house in Marafa and relocate to Rigasa.
“It was on a weekend, Saturday to be precise. But I was amazed at the new environment though the house was quite big.
“Fortunately for me, I was with some #20 notes and the drink I had bought for the family use. So, he collected the money and shared to about 30 children who came around in Rigasa. From that day with what I saw him doing, I developed interests in the affairs of children and poor people.
“So after my father’s death, I thought of what I can do for him. I prayed for him and ever since, helping people in the need has been there and eventually gave birth to Sulbah Care Foundation.
“I hope the little lives we can touch, will be acceptable by Almighty Allah. It is not about tribe, religion or any sentiment but efforts at making the whole world a better place for all”, she noted.
“In a remarks, the Director of Programme Sulbah Care, Hon. Abdul Yusuf said, the foundation is committed to poverty Alleviation, financial emancipation and employment of the less privileged.
