Sisters Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) has asserted that the world is no longer confident with Nigeria because of the prolonged detention of its leader and some members of their group which they say is denting the image of the around the world.
The group stated this during a rally along Eastern Bypass in Kaduna to draw the attention of government and protest what they called adoption and illegal detention of their leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky by the government.
According to the spokesperson of the group, Hajiya Maryam Abdullahi, “this has dented the image of the of the Nigerian government in the diaspora where thousands of people from different parts of the world are raising their voices in condemnation of the brutalities meted on the IMN.
“As women and members of the IMN, we condemn the killing of our members and their continued illegal detention.
“Since the Nigerian Army abducted our leader, no one, including his lawyers was allowed to any access to him for the past three months, even as the Nigerian Constitution disallows detention without charging one to court beyond 48hours.
“We called for the immediate and unconditional release of our leader, his Eminence Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky.”
It could be recalled that the group through a team of its lawyers, led by Festus Okoye appeared before the judicial Commission of inquiry, set up by the Kaduna State Government on Monday, 7th March 2016 but maintained it’s position not to submit any memorandum until it has access to the leader of the movement, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, an effort he said is being frustrated.
