Senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial District, Shehu Sani, as described the Nigerian Students as partners in implementation of the change agenda hence the need to involve them if the agenda will be a success in the life span of President Mohammadu Buhari led administration.
He said the students’ energy, vibrancy and patriotism must be harnessed for the effective implementation of the change agenda.
The activist turned politician stated this at a 2-day leadership conference for students of higher institutions in Nigeria, organized by a nongovernmental organization, Centre for Development of Leadership With Integrity and Purpose held at Arewa house, Kaduna Yesterday.
Represented by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Abdulsamad Amadi, Sen Sani further added that the agenda is a holistic one, thus very relevant to country’s development.
“Statistics available states that today’s population of Nigerian students ate the largest we have ever known, it becomes imperative for us to take seriously the role that can be played by them in actualizing these laudable change agenda of President Mohammadu Buhari led government.
“Over many years my struggles as an activist, including being incarcerated for years by respective military juntas and now in my current position as a Senator, I have seen how student’s incredible drive and commitment can change things for the better. On a daily basis, young people show their power for transformational change. This power is what I am encouraging you to invoke now and show your unflinching support for the change agenda of this government.
“There’s an old saying: “Nothing about us – without us”. Involving the Nigerian students as partners in the implementation of the Change Agenda is both a right in itself and an important condition for the success of the Agenda over the life span of this administration. The students’ energy, vibrancy and patriotism must be harnessed for the effective implementation of the change agenda,” he stressed.
Earlier in his welcome address, Senator
representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Danjumah La’ar, who was represented by National President, PDP Fan Club, Jerry Ishaya, noted that the country have several challenges, calking in the youth to think and see how they could help the country overcome its challenges rather than involving themselves in crime related activities.
The Convener, Mr. George Okoh, said the country is suffering today because many of its leaders had missed the onions of leadership during their higher institution days which is why his a NGO deem it fit to organise the conference where students representatives from higher institutions in Nigeria to know what leadership is all about before getting there in a nearer future.
The Centre’s Strategic Project Coordinator, Peter Dominic, stressed that the theme of the conference, “Preparing emerging Leaders for Cohesive Leadership in a Diverse Society”, was timely and relevant owing to the fact that the leadership is a continuous process that needed to be well understood by everyone aspiring to lead at any capacity.
President, Student Union Government, Kaduna Polytechnic, Comrade Usman Kareem and his counterpart from Division of Agricultural College, ABU Zaria, want the federal government to do something reasonable to abolish in practical terms, the discrepancies between certificate holders in order to get the best out of them especially those who are with HND.
