The Kano Police Command has arraigned 57 men between the ages of 30 and 60 for rape and sodomy they allegedly committed with 58 minors.
The accused were arraigned before a Magistrate Court 18 presided by Justice Idris Muhammad.
Others were arraigned before Magistrate Court 6 presided by Chief Magistrate Fatima Adamu.
The prosecuting counsel, S.O. Ekwe, said although the police were still investigating the matter, they had enough evidence against them.
The cases were therefore adjourned till December 2.
But the state police commissioner, Muhammad Katsina noted that many of the rape victims were infected with HIV/AIDS.
Mr. Katsina told journalists that cases of rape had taken an alarming rate in the state.
He said a man was currently in police custody for defiling 10 young boys.
Meanwhile, in Court 6, four women were arraigned for helping a man, Aminu Muhammad, to abort the pregnancy of Barira Muhammed, conceived out of wedlock.
All the accused pleaded guilty to the charges, except Mr. Muhammad, who pleaded not guilty.
The court therefore sentenced them to three years in prison with payment of N3,000 fine each.
