NUJ Kaduna chair Garba, unseated over union quagmire

Kaduna State Council of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ)’ Chairman, Garba Muhammad has been impeached after other members of his cabinet passed vote of no confidence against his leadership style and illegal custody of council’s property and documents before traveled abroad for religion rites.
The impeachment notice which was contained in a communique signed by Chairman and Secretary of Communique Drafting Committee, Elder John Fwah and Shidong Bala respectively, noted that the council took the decision during its Congress, which was presided over by the Council’s Vice Chairman, Zhiroh Jatau in Kaduna on Wednesday.
The communique read in part, “that the Chairman, Malam Garba Muhammad did not officially handover anything to his vice, Zhiroh Jatau before travelling outside the country.
“That the vice Chairman learnt of the trip through a telephone call from the chairman notifying her of the trip.
“That Council Secretary, Mallam Dauda Doka could not read minutes of the last Congress because all official files, including minutes book, Cheque book, Council vehicle (Peugeot Partner) were in custody of the chairman. Hence his inability to read the minutes.
“That the Council could not be represented at the NUJ Constitutional conference at Abeokuta, Ogun State.
“That unavailability of official documents, including cheque book, incapacitated the running of the Council and the trip to Abeokuta.
“Congress affirmed the resolution of State Executive Council (SEC) to stand down the renaming of the State Secretariat after a former military administrator of the state, late Major General Tanko Ayuba.
“Thereafter, the Exco passed a vote of no confidence on the Chairman.
“Subsequently, Congress discussed the above issues and unanimously impeached the Chairman following a Motion for his impeachment. There was no counter Motion”, it read.
