NIGERIA – National Rescue Movement (NRM) has taken a step to address the issue of money politics in Nigeria polity which has prevented a lot of competent Nigerians from occupying elective positions.
This the party did by slashing the money that would be paid by its members for expression of interest and nomination forms for elective positions in the 2019 general elections.
National Chairman of the party, Senator Saidu Dansadau, who described as expensive the money charge by political parties for nomination forms stated this at the launching of #NotTooPoorToRun campaign in Abuja on Monday.
According to him, money should not be a factor in contesting elections in the country but credibility, acceptability and fear of God should be paramount in the electioneering process.
“Why should each contestant pay N25m? That is incredible. Political party is not for sale, the business of parties is to serve people”
He noted that aspirants on the platform of the party will purchase forms at a very cheap rate to make it affordable for competent people who may not have financial muscle.
He further stated that, presidential, governorship, senatorial, houses of representative and state assembly aspirants will pay N250,000, N200,000, N150,000, N100,000 and N50,000 respectively.
Commenting, the presidential Aspirant under NRM Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu said, if elected as president of Nigeria in 2019, he would pursue people oriented policies, promising tackling issues in security, health, education and youth empowerment, power, agriculture and digital anti corruption.
