Manufacturers responsible for hike in price of goods – Distributors
By Godwin Ekosin, Kaduna
AS a result of hike in prices of food items in Nigerian market in resent times, key Distributors in Kaduna State, have hinged the increment on manufacturers’ decision and not distributors as been speculated.
Speaking through Kaduna-based business giant, Alhaji Muhammadu Salisu Hussaini popularly known as Salisu Mai Maggi, they blamed the hike on Manufacturers, saying they can only sell at price they buy from manufacturers.
Mai-Maggi, who was reacting to a comment credited to a Manufacturer who appeared on National Television that it has not increased price of it goods but distributors did, decried that the increment is already affecting their businesses.
He said it is a lie for any manufacturer to say the Distributors are responsible for the price increments which also have direct effect on them.
“It has come to our notice talks going round on hike in prices of goods. We are not responsible for the price increments but it is the manufacturers who increased the prices of goods.
“The manufacturers are painting us black before the people. In fact, we heard recently that an Imam in his sermon at a Jumaat mosque was blaming the distributors for hiking the price of goods. He was relying on the information by the manufacturer who appeared on National television.
“This is not true. And we have evidence. In fact, this is evident in our last order of goods. I placed order of N21.560million on 12th February, 2016 in a company for supply of goods but today it is almost one month and they have not supplied me because of the increment.
“And I have written to them to refund my money.
“What surprises us, is for someone to come out to the public that he did not increase prices of his goods,” he said.
The major distributor however called on the government to revive moribund industries in the country in order to give way for healthy business competitions.
