//Crime: Shola Ojo, Kaduna//
A Kaduna-based businessman, Mallam Abubakar Adamu and his wife, Fatima Abubakar are currently cooling their feet in custody of Kaduna State Police Command for allegedly connived to stealing two 5-year-old children (name withheld).
The Command’s Spokesperson, ASP Aliyu Usman who disclosed this while parading the suspects before newsmen in Kaduna yesterday further hinted that, Mallam Abubakar, who lives at Ungwuwan Shekara, Malali District, Kaduna North Local Government Area, during investigation informed the Police that the first child (male) whom he rechristened ‘Ibrahim’ was taken by him along Liberia road, Malali, while the second one (female) was taken on her way back from Islamic school a month ago along Jajere road, Badikko, Kaduna South Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect was also reported to have obtained International Passports and Birth Certificates for the two kids because he intended to travel with them to Saudi Arabia before he was nabbed by the police following intelligence gathering.
But the suspect denied having any intention to sell the children to highest bidder as been speculated by his critics.
“My wife, Fatima Abubakar who is an Igbo woman has been childless since our marriage; and whenever I see children, I get attracted to them especially when they are beautiful and intelligent. I have already spent more than $1,000 on them to buy toys for them and they’re all registered at a private school in Malali.
“So, if I have intention of selling them I shouldn’t have bothered myself enrolling them into school. I want the best for them because I see them as my own children.”
When asked why he didn’t go to the Orphanage Homes to adopt a child, Mallam Abubakar said the pressure from family and friends was too much on him, so he cannot think in the right direction.
However, wife of the suspect, Hajiya Fatima claimed that she is not aware that her husband stole the kids because he told them he adopt them from an orphanage which left her with no suspicion.
