Lifeline: 15 Kaduna schools to become boarding – El-Rufai’s Commissioner
Kaduna State Commissioner of Education, Professor Andrew Nok, on Fridayday disclosed plans to convert 15 government secondary schools in the state into a full fledged boarding.
Professor Nok made this known while addressing a press conference at the Kaduna State Correspondent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
The schools to be converted includes: Queen Amina College – Kaduna, Govt. Girls Secondary School – Kawo, Govt. Technical College – Malali, Barewa College – Zaria, Girls Science Secondary School – Kowai, Govt. College – Kagoro, Alhudahuda, Govt. Girls Sec. School – Soba, Govt. College – Saminaka, Rimi College, Govt. College – Kaduna, Govt Sec. School – Kachia, Govt. Girls College – Zonkwa and Govt. Sec. School – Giwa.
He sighted instance of government College, Kaduna and Rimi College, which he said are day schools or facilities but will be converted into a full fledged boarding schools while others which are already boarding will be made effective.
He said plans are also underway to renovate and upgrade the hostels, library, clinics facilities and total landscaping of the schools to give it an aura of an academic environment.
He said the government is also working towards building fence around it schools against influx of hoodlooms who invade the schools and carryout attacks.
On school feeding programme put in place by the government, Professor Nok debunk allegation that the program has been suspended.
According to him, “No, the School feeding is still on. We hold Education Intervention committee every Wednesday to monitor the program closely and effectively.
“In fact, by next term, we intend to improve the design of the school feeding programme,” Prof. Nok however stated.
