Kebbi Indigenes Fault Atiku Over N630m Argungu Festival, Say It’s Waste Of Money

Concern Citizens of Kebbi State on Thursday faulted their State Governor, Sen Atiku Bagudu for earmarking about N630 million to host Yauri Boat Regatta and Argungu International Fishing festival this year.
This group belieand that, the Governor was doing so without being sensitive to the economic situation of the State and the national concern of the issuecoronavirusvirus in some parts of the country even as the national Assembly has closed down for the same reason.
Addressing journalists at the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kaduna, Coordinator of the group, Murtala Adamu, said, the people of the State are worried that, the amount would have been channelled to a course that would be beneficial to the vast majority of people in the State rather than lavishing it to appease a few friends.
According to him, “while a lot of people are facing serious economic hardship in the State, Atiku Bagudu earmarked millions of Naira to host Yauri Boat Regatta and Argungu International Fishing festival.
“He is doing that without being sensitive to the economic situation of the State and the national concern of the issue of coronavirus in some parts of the country even as the national Assembly has closed down for the same sake.
“There is complete lack of infrastructures befitting the State capital. It is only the State capital without standard roads network, no standard drainages and other public facilities befitting a State Capital.
“The only market in Birnin Kebbi destroyed by fire incident 4 years ago is still waiting for complete repairs by the Government, therefore, we wish to call for the outright cancellation of the Argungu International Fishing festival to avoid further spread of Lassa fever and coronavirus currently in the country”, he added.
