Kaduna govt takes custody of lunatic’s newborn

Commissioner, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Kaduna State, Hajia Rabi Abdulsalam, has directed the social welfare department in her ministry to take care one mentally ill woman who gave birth openly in Kaduna market and her baby boy.
Daily Sun reported last week that a 22-year-old mentally ill woman, simply identified as Hassana, gave birth to a healthy baby boy at central market, Kaduna and she has since been transferred to Federal Neuro-Psychiatric hospital in Barnawa, Kaduna South local government for proper medical and psychological attentions.
It could be recalled that spirited Nigerians including Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, were the early callers, who offered the insane woman necessary maternity aide.
It may not be unconnected to this report, that the commissioner visited the mother and child where she directed that two social welfare officers be stationed at the hospital to assist the woman. She equally donated some needs for their upkeep.
According to the Commissioner, “I want to reiterate the commitment of Kaduna State Government through my ministry at ensuring that all categories of citizens are well catered for especially the socially excluded.
“The baby’s custody has been transfered to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social development for further necessary action.
“Social welfare department has been directed to swing into action to ascertain the development and to ensure that necessary assistance is extended to both the mother and her child. Two social welfare officers have been assigned to her to monitor and assist her all day long.
“The ministry wishes to to express it sincere appreciation to the Nigerian Police, women and good spirited Nigerians, who had in one way or the other showed kindness to the woman.
When Daily Sun visited the woman in the hospital, she expressed sadness because like every other woman, she knew too well that she delivered something which she is not seeing. This however made her to embark on hunger strike to protest the absence of her child by her side.
