NIGERIA –
The Kaduna Baptist Conference has called on security agents in the state to take proactive measure to check the rising cases of kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state with particular reference to Igabi local government area.
This was coming as three members of the denomination were said to have been adopted by unknown gunmen barely a month after Reverend Hosea Akuchi of Nasara Baptist Church was murdered and his wife abducted until a ransom of N500,000 was paid before she could be freed.
Briefing newsmen about the development in Kaduna yesterday, Conference Chairman, Reverend Joshua Amangwai said, “we received report that on August 19, 2018, some terrorists invaded the village, murdered Rev. Hosea Akuchi and kidnapped his wife Talatu Akuchi.
“The matter was reported at Rigasa police station and men were despatched to the scene but only what they could do was to help in conveying his corpse to St. Gerald Catholic Hospital, Kakuri.
“The woman stayed one week with the kidnappers and they demanded N5 million ransom. After much prayer, negotiation and pleading, she was released on the 26th August 2018 and landed in the hospital.
“On the day Hosea Akuchi was buried another of our member, a female was kidnapped in Pakah. Her abductors were demanding N2 million before she can be released.
“Similarly two men who are also Baptist Church members were kidnapped in Gurguzu village and nothing has been heard about them. This is what we have been going through here in Kaduna”, he stressed.
He continued, “we want to passionately plead with the government to take the fight against the insurgents seriously because they have left the North East and are scattered in vast forests for cover up in order to reach their soft targets.
“This is an act of terrorism and criminality against the state and her citizens. We therefore call on the government to establish special security unit and strike force deport in the above mentioned places”, he added.
