Intnl Youth Day: El-Rufai advocates youth development
Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai on Friday, said his administration will partner Agencies to eradicate poverty among the youths for sustainable growth and development of the state.
The governor, who spoke through his Commissioner for Youths, Sport and Culture, Daniel Danauta stated this whille speaking at the opening of International Youths Day on in Kaduna.
He said there can be no sustainable development if they remain on the side lines, hence the call on all sectors, collaborating ministries, departments and agencies of the government, social groups, corporate firms and every mindful individuals to join hands with the state government to support and equip the youths of the state towards eradicating poverty and achieving sustainable production in the state.
El-Rufai reminded the gathering that International Youth Day Celebration is an annual event specially designed by the United Nations General Assembly through resolution 54/120 of 1999 to call attention to issues that has impact on Youths’ development globally.
He added that this year’s celebration is themed, “The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Production and Consumption”, saying it was in line with the vision of the administration to make the State great again.
“We all know that the greatness of any nation lies in the strength of its youths.
Young people are not only our future, they are our present, they are the most connected, most outspoken and the most open minded generation the world has ever seen.
“In our quest to make Kaduna great again, Since this administration came on board in May 2015, it has placed premium on the overall well being of the youths. This is in recognition of the importance of the Youths in the growth, development and succession in leadership of any nation.
“This commitment is what has driven us into seeking partnership with international and local development Organisations as well as multinationals in our quest to fashioning out course for youths development.
“One of such partnerships is what has made this year’s International Youths Week possible.
“We want to thank Aid Foundation and NSRP of the British Council, who graciously have identified with our administration’s commitments for youths development and empowerment for partnering with the Kaduna State Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, not only in organizing this year’s International youths’ week celebration but for other activities that will culminate into charting out acceptable future for the teeming youths”, said the governor.
