A group, Kaduna Mass Movement (KMM) had wrote to draw the attention of the State Governor, Malam Nasir El-rufai over the accumulating salaries of state’s employees and pensioners.
The group expressed concern about the economic and social status of affected workers and their dependents.
Chairman of the group Major Abubakar Umar (Rtd), who is a signatory to the letter believed to have been received by the office of the governor, added that he felt for the plight of the workers since the inception of the APC administration in the state, saying workers have witnessed untold hardship due to verification exercises compelled on them by the government.
He drew the attention of the governor to the loss of lives during the last verification exercise which was conducted in Zaria disclosing that families of the victims were yet to receive any compensation for the loss of their bread winners.
He alleged that, “during the electioneering campaign you promised to allay the hardships of the citizens of the state.
“People trooped out in numbers, from 4am-11pm just to ensure that a change of government is realized in the state with the hope that life will be better for the citizens, their rights will be protected and not trampled upon.”
He advised the government to always pay workers promptly as the consequent effect of not paying civil servants/pensioners their salaries as at when due will certainly lead to corruption in the system where hungry/angry civil servants will resort to all sorts of crimes to make ends meet.
“We should not quickly forget that lack of concern for the welfare of the citizens led to the evolution of Boko Haram”.
The retired Major stressed that the availability of leadership that is wise, bold and imaginative is what the citizens saw in the governor when they elected him into office.
“Past Leaders of this state have deceived the citizens and have run out of promises, since pervasive economic realities have made it too difficult for the people to be deceived all the time”.
Umar called on El rufai to harken to the cry of the people.
“There is a general outcry against some of your policies, most especially not paying workers and pensioners their salaries and the verification exercise which has become so inhuman, that they negate the very ideals which the All Progressive Congress(APC) purport to operate.
“I call on you to do all within your powers to alleviate the suffering of the people who trooped out under harsh conditions to vote you into power.
