Coalition under the auspices of Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) on Monday condemned in strong terms the recent invasion of personal property of erstwhile Comptroller-General of Customs, Alhaji Abdullahi Dikko inde by men of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The youth expressed worry over the development considering the what the former customs boss had done for the country in terms of service delivery and economic improvement that has presented the country in good light even beyond African soil.
NYCN further alleged that the anti-graft agency also failed to obtain search warrant before barging into Dikko’s residence and scattered his family and personal belongings ”as if he is a Boko Haram suspect.” The group added that it was in support of war against corruption but then, it should have started with former EFCC boss, Ibrahim Lamorde, who allegedly failed to account for a whopping N1trillion recovered loot to proof to the world that charity begins at home.
Addressing newsmen on Monday in Kaduna, National President of NYCN, Comrade Isah Abubakar, said EFF should accept blame for their impotence of not getting hold of Dikko at home, hence the EFCC ways of tracking suspects is full of disappointments.
Abubakar, who frowned at the way and manner in which the EFCC is pursuing the stolen public funds, regretted the embarrassment the agency has caused the country, quickly added that EFCC is only trying to impress selected audience.
According to him, Dikko has done the country proud through various innovations and ideas that had increased effective service delivery and improved revenue generation while in service.
He said, “in 2009, Alhaji Dikko set benchmark in capacity building especially in terms of service delivery, breaking new grounds in areas of re-orientation, training and retraining of customs officers.
“The NYCN is once more constrained to bring to the notice of Nigerians the opportunities antics devised by EFCC in their quest to remain relevant by abusing people’s right, while applying tactics that has since become obsolete and uncivilized.
“We therefore call Nigerians from all works of life to rise up and overwhelmingly challenge acts of impunity by the political class and security operatives in the country including the almighty EFCC,”
The group however called on presidency to call its anti-graft agencies to order or else its corruption crusade will be viewed by international community as futile and selective which is the worst form of justice.
