APC Chairmanship: Murtala Nyako A Better Choice – Groups

A coalition of Civil Society Groups in conjunction with Concerned Young All Progressive Congress (APC) in the North on Tuesday called on the ruling party to hunt for the erstwhile Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, as its National Chairman.
To these groups, Nyako is a better choice for the ruling APC because he can bring all party members under one roof for a uniting front ahead of the 2023 elections.
Reading a text of the press before newsmen at Arewa House, Kawo, Kaduna, Groups spokesman, Abdulsalam Mohammed Kazeem, said, the Coalition, along with 30 civil society organizations, decided to call on Murtala Nyako to roll up his sleeves and come to rescue APC after due considerations.
“Given the forthcoming National Convention in June, we are calling on President Muhammadu Buhari, the APC Caretaker/Convention Planning Committee, APC Governors, APC legislators, Stakeholders and members to ensure that the party gets a leadership that is neutral and liberal, visionary, well-grounded and well respected by all.
“Since It is no longer debatable that the forthcoming APC national convention for the position of national chairman is targeted at promoting cohesion, peace, unity and integration, then the North East deserve the opportunity to have the next party chairman.
“We have x-rayed the key personalities that have what it take to lead the party and hereby most humbly found the Former Chief of Naval Staff and Former Governor of Adamawa State His Excellency Vice Admiral Murtala Nyako (Baba Mai Mangoro) as the man who fits the definition of that position in terms of political sagacity, leadership achievements, followership, competence, capacity, influence, credibility and acceptance.
“The Coalition, therefore, endorses Nyako because his reputation speaks for him, he possesses the requisite experience, the desired leadership qualities, going by his rich experience in public service he has demonstrated competence in leadership and as a grassroots politician he is always expanding the scope of participatory governance.
Although his Excellency has never indicated any interest in contesting the National Chairmanship position, we believe his patriotism, foresight and love for this great Party and Nigeria will not let him neglect or reject this call if prevailed upon by the National Stakeholders of the Party.
“We are confident that Nyako leadership will heal all the wounds in the APC and ensure that the Party approach the 2023 election united, prepared and accepted by Nigerians”, Abdulsalam said.
