Again, Akpabio’s Factor stalls Declaration Of Akwa Ibom Gov’ship results
One again, Essien Udim Local Government Area is holding the declaration of gubernatorial election results in Akwa Ibom State.
Just like it happened in the presidential and National Assembly elections when the results of Akwa Ibom North West senatorial district and that of Ikot Ekpene federal constituency were delayed for two days, before they were brought and read at the state headquarters of INEC, Uyo, for safety reasons, the governorship result of Essien Udim has also stalled the final declaration of the election held on Saturday as it was not available at the time of filing this report on Sunday evening.
The incident has thus forced INEC to proceed on a break after the results of 30 other local government areas had been declared, with PDP winning all.
Similarly, the result of the state House of Assembly election for the same Essien Udim, where the factional speaker of Akwa Ibom House, Mr Nse Ntuen of the APC is contesting to return to the Assembly with others including Mr Esse Umoh of the PDP.
Our correspondent learned that it was the only Assembly result not yet declared as the PDP candidates had swept all the remaining 25 seats.
It is not known whether on resumption of the forced recess, the panel would go ahead and declare Gov Udom Emmanuel winner of the governorship election, if the total votes in Essien Udim are not available.
An analyst said that would be whether the total votes expected from the local government will or will not exceed the margin of victory which the governor enjoys so far.
