2016 Lent: Muslims felicitate with Christians, call for peaceful coexistence
By Akon Eddy, Kaduna
MUSLIM clerics in Nigeria said on Friday that they felicitate with Christians all over the world for the grace to 2016 Lenten period and sued for peaceful coexistence among different faiths.
TO this effect, a team of Muslim scholars, paid a courtesy call on the General Overseer, Christ Evangelical Intercessory Fellowship Ministry, Sabo Tasha, Pastor Yohanna Buru in Kaduna.
THE scholars led by Alaramma Abdulrahman Mohammad Bichi, said the visit is to encourage cleric-to-clerics visitation which in turn will boost the culture of peace among Nigerians.
ALARAMA said the visit is also to felicitate with Christians all over the world for the commencement of the 40 days fasting period.
“THE Lenten period is special to Christians around the world, and that is why we have come to felicitate and wish our Christian brothers and sisters a successful fasting period.
“LENT is a period of preparation for the Holy Week and Easter. It is an important season of dedication to worship God.
“SOME churches observe the custom of making ashes from the palm crosses of the previous year during Ash Wednesday service, marking the foreheads of worshipers with ash.
“THE importance of prayers cannot be over emphasis at the Lenten season, and that is why we as Muslim scholars, are calling on Christians around the world to redouble their efforts in prayers at this holy month, for blessings and God’s intervention on the problems of peace and stability in Africa and other parts of the world.
”WE are from one family, Adam and Eve and we all worship one God. We all believed in Paradise and Hell, and the resurrection.
“THEREFORE let us all keep on living in peace and harmony with one another. Learn to accommodate and tolerate each other in other to make our country great,”the cleric said.
IN a remark, Pastor Yohanna Buru, thanked the Muslim scholars, and appealed to both Muslims and Christians to live in peace and support each other in other to make Nigeria great
