Investigation into murder of a serving member of National Youth Services Corp (NYSC) member serving in Kaduna State Lawal Awaul Kontagora on Monday showed a fresh reason for the killing as one of the suspects, Adamu Jubril confessed that a friend hired him to joined in the killing of the deceased suspected to be dating his girlfriend.
Jubril, while speaking to investigative reporters at the premises of the State Intelligent Bureau (SIB) in Kaduna, confessed that a friend known as Aminu Bahago came to his house to informed him that there is a ‘guy’ dating his girlfriend and he want them to go and deal with him.
Adamu who said he is a cook at a restaurant in the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna said, he obliged to his friend request and they moved to the crimes site.
“I waited for Aminu at Malali Bus Stop but he later called me to meet him at Gambia Road Malali Low Cost. When I got there he showed me a Peugeot 307 car parked on the street, saying the guy dating his girl friend is inside the car with the girl.
“We move to the car and Aminu asked the late Lawal to open the door, which he obliged. My friend Aminu instructed me to stab him and I stabbed him twice on the back and Aminu shot him on the leg. Aminu later picked two handsets from the car and gave me one and we left the area quickly with Aminu shooting sporadically in the air to frightened people”, he stated.
Adamu, who lives at U/Gado Malali also disclosed that the gun used in the operation belongs to him claiming that he bought it from Aminu at the cost of N30,000 and he has made a part payment ofN10,000.
He said further that, ”after killing the man, I removed his sim card and replaced it with my own. It was when I was using the handset that the police tracked me down and I was arrested at Kaduna Central Market”.
The police confirmed that the gun and machetes used in the killing of the late corps member were uncovered in Adamu Jubril’s room at Nizom road u/ Gado, adding that investigation into the case is ongoing.
